Job summary

Novant Health is seeking a Communications Center Specialist to join our Security Operations Center in Monroe, NC. This full-time night-shift role supports patient, staff, and visitor safety by managing high volumes of calls, dispatching Protective Services, and monitoring real-time operations.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, relevant dispatch/telecom experience, and several certifications within specified timeframes.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Some College Courses preferred.
  • Experience: Satisfactory experience as a Communications Technician, Emergency Telecommunications Specialist, Dispatcher; relevant experience considered.
  • Licensure/Certification: Crisis Prevention Institute Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Crisis Communications, or CIT within 1 year of hire; APCO Public Safety Tele-communicator I and RQI Responder certified within 6 months of hire, required.
  • Additional Skills (required): DPS, Security, law enforcement or military communications experience.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the central communication hub for the Security Operations Center.
  • Dispatch Protective Services in response to calls and incidents.
  • Monitor radio traffic and track real-time status updates.
  • Respond to and document routine and emergency calls from team members, visitors, patients, and Public Safety personnel.
  • Understand and apply Public Safety protocols, policies, and applications.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of all Novant Health facilities and Department of Public Safety (DPS) program.

What We Offer

Job Title: Communications Center Specialist

Location: Monroe, NC

Schedule: NIGHTS 5:30 PM-5:30 AM, rotating 12-hour shifts with every other weekend off

Overview: Join the Security Operations Center (SOC) at Novant Health as a Communications Center Specialist. This role is central to ensuring the safety of patients, visitors, and staff by managing high volumes of communication and dispatching Protective Services during both routine and emergency situations.
