The Commercial Manager will oversee the full commercial lifecycle of our clients clean‑energy projects, partnering closely with Sales, Development, Engineering, Operations, Services, and Legal. This role shapes deal structures, leads contract negotiations, manages financial and commercial risk, and ensures projects move forward with clarity, discipline, and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the negotiation of commercial terms with customers, vendors, funders, and delivery partners.
- Own the commercial framework for each deal, ensuring alignment with financial models, risk thresholds, and internal standards.
- Guide the commercial approach for RFP responses, balancing competitiveness with margin protection and execution feasibility.
Financial & Market Oversight
- Conduct market and competitive analysis to inform pricing and deal positioning.
- Ensure financial models and contract structures are aligned throughout the deal cycle.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost‑control efforts tied to project execution.
- Identify commercial risks and develop mitigation strategies with cross‑functional teams.
- Maintain adherence to internal approval processes and governance requirements.
- Build and refine commercial tools, reporting structures, and decision‑making frameworks.
Cross‑Functional Leadership
- Serve as the central commercial point of contact across internal teams.
- Provide commercial insights that support strategic planning and pipeline prioritization.
- Drive continuous improvement in commercial processes, best practices, and knowledge sharing.
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Law, Engineering, or related field (MBA preferred).
- 7+ years in commercial management, project development, or project finance within clean energy or distributed energy.
- Strong understanding of the full commercial lifecycle of energy projects — development, financing, construction, and operations.
- Experience with distributed energy technologies such as solar PV, BESS, microgrids, and energy‑efficiency projects.
- Familiarity with key commercial agreements, including NDAs, development agreements, EPC contracts, O&M agreements, PPAs, and funder documentation.
- Proven ability to structure complex deals and manage third‑party financiers.
- Experience negotiating with a wide range of customers, including corporate, municipal, K‑12, and public‑sector clients.
- Strong skills in negotiation, analytics, stakeholder management, and communication.
- Proficiency with financial modeling, contract management tools, and ERP systems.
