Job summary

Southern Michigan Bank & Trust seeks a Commercial Loan Assistant to oversee the preparation and execution of loan packages and maintain required documentation. You will support one or more commercial loan officers with confidential and complex loans.

Responsibilities include reviewing packages, preparing security documents, typing letters, responding to inquiries, meeting customers to close small business loans, and supporting month-end reporting for the board.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Basic computer experience including Windows, Word, and Excel.
• Proficient typing skills.
• Ability to interpret the needs of customers and effectively resolve problems.
• Basic math skills including fractions, decimals and percentages.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and adapt to situations.
• Excellent customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and prepares loan packages and documents following underwriting guidelines.
• Prepares loan documents to protect the bank's security position.
• Type letters, memos and reports for loan officers.
• Screen incoming calls and write routine correspondence for loan officers.
• Meet with customers and close small business loans.
• Prepare month-end and quarter-end reports for Board meetings.
• Order third-party loan documentation and coverages as requested.
• Collect pending loan documents and assist officers with delivery.
• Prepare notices on denied credit applications.
• Advance commercial credit lines and floor plan lines of credit.
• Assist customers with problems, billing, accounts or loans.
• Cross-train and assist others in Commercial Loan and Credit Departments.
