Job summary

Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is seeking qualified candidates in Laurel, MD for roles focusing on Integrated Air and Missile Defense systems analysis. Strong MATLAB/Python skills and a US citizenship with clearance eligibility are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant engineering or science field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in combat systems engineering or missile-defense data analysis.
  • Strong MATLAB and/or Python programming capability.
  • Ability to obtain Interim Secret clearance starting date, then Final Secret; US citizenship required.
  • Preferred: DoD/War Department experience or work with prime contractors.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering practices and design influence.
  • Experience with Aegis Weapon System data preferred.
  • Active Secret clearance a plus.

Responsibilities

  • We validate the performance of current and future Integrated Air and Missile Defense systems by analyzing ground test, flight test, and operational data.
  • We develop new approaches to improve analysis workflows and strengthen anomaly detection.
  • We work closely with sponsors and prime contractor representatives to perform root cause analysis of performance shortfalls and define corrective actions.
  • We build domain expertise and deepen our understanding of Aegis command-and-decision algorithms and Integrated Air and Missile Defense concepts.
  • We assess command and control systems and algorithms and analyze system-level performance for current and future Aegis Combat System baselines and coordinated air and missile defense architectures such as Golden Dome for America.
