Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is seeking a Systems Engineer to join the Distributed Tactical Awareness and Decision-Making group. You will help integrate sensors, networks, combat management software, and weapons systems, and develop new concepts for anti-air and surface warfare.

You will work with cross-disciplinary teams, analyze test data, and contribute to documents such as specifications and trade studies while potentially visiting Navy ships and warfighters

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Proficiency with C++, Java, Python, MATLAB or similar programming languages.
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Eligible for Interim Secret clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and improve interactions between sensors, networks, software, and weapons.
  • Solve complex system-of-systems integration challenges for Navy platforms.
  • Develop concepts for anti-air and surface warfare and precision strike.
  • Analyze data from tests to inform engineering decisions.
  • Develop expertise on command-and-control systems like Aegis, SSDS, and Zumwalt.
  • Produce specifications, requirements, trade studies, and test plans.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams and share work externally and internally.
  • Visit Navy ships and work with sailors and warfighters.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science or equivalent
Advanced degree preferred
