Surge Staffing is seeking a customer-focused IT Support Specialist (Help Desk Technician) to support employees at our headquarters and across the branch network in Columbus, OH. You will troubleshoot hardware, software, connectivity, and account access issues to keep operations running smoothly.

The ideal candidate communicates clearly, stays organized, and provides patient, professional support to users with varying technical knowledge.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1+ year IT help desk or desktop support experience preferred.
• Proficiency in Windows OS, Microsoft 365, and common office hardware.
• Basic networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN) understood.
• Ability to explain technical solutions to nontechnical users.

Responsibilities

• Serve as first point of contact for support requests via phone, email, and ticketing system.
• Troubleshoot desktops, laptops, monitors, printers, scanners, and phones.
• Support Windows and Microsoft 365 apps (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel).
• Diagnose network, Wi-Fi, VPN issues; escalate complex problems.
• Install, configure, update, maintain hardware/software.
• Assist with onboarding by configuring accounts and equipment access.
• Handle offboarding by restricting access and recovering equipment.
• Perform password resets and MFA support.
• Provide remote support and coordinate on-site visits as needed.
• Document steps and resolutions in the ticketing system.
• Prioritize requests by urgency and inform users of progress.
• Escalate unresolved issues to IT team/vendor and follow through.
• Maintain equipment inventory and support documentation.
• Educate employees on basic tech practices and security concerns.
• Follow procedures to protect information from employees, candidates, and clients.
• Assist with IT projects and equipment rollouts.
