Collections/Archives Associate - Part Time
Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher). In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, four (4) years of full time related experience or a combination of higher education course work and work experience totaling four (4) full‑time years may be considered. Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 30 pounds, pushing loaded book trucks, climbing ladders, and standing or walking for extended periods.
Experience in archives, special collections, libraries, museums, or similar settings. Experience with archival storage and preservation practices. Experience with collection inventories, and rehousing of materials. Experience preparing archival, rare book, or special collections materials for exhibitions and displays. Demonstrated ability to safely handle rare or fragile materials.
The Collections/Archives Associate provides collections care and management support for rare books, manuscripts, archival materials, and general library collections. Responsibilities include retrieving, transporting, shelving, refiling, rehousing, labeling, and maintaining collections; monitoring and reporting physical, environmental, and security concerns; assisting with basic preservation activities, inventories, space management, environmental monitoring, and disaster response; and coordinating and overseeing departmental student staff. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a service‑oriented environment.
Retrieval, transport, shelving/refiling, safe handling, rehousing, labeling, collection maintenance, and secure movement of rare books, manuscripts, archives, and general collections.
Cleaning, rehousing, encapsulation, stabilization, monitoring physical condition, identifying preservation concerns, and maintaining preservation supplies.
Collection inventories, shelf maintenance, organization of storage areas, space management projects, and related collection moves.
Supporting environmental monitoring and disaster response activities and reporting environmental or security concerns.
Assisting with coordination and oversight of departmental student staff and supporting routine preservation/collections operations.
Preparing, retrieving, and safely moving materials needed for exhibitions, research, instruction, digitization, and other departmental requests.
Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
This is a part‑time appointment. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
