Stony Brook University Libraries is seeking an Instructional Support Associate to oversee library locations during evening and weekend hours, including potential opening and closing duties. The position involves frontline public service, desk assistance, and supervising student employees.
The role requires a Bachelor's degree, strong customer service skills, and experience with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace. Knowledge of library operations and ILS workflows is preferred.
Bachelor’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Demonstrated proficiency using productivity and collaboration tools, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Calendar). Demonstrated experience providing high-quality customer service in a fast-paced, public-facing setting (e.g., academic support services, libraries, hospitality, or similar), including effectively resolving user concerns and maintaining a welcoming environment. Supervisory experience, including training, scheduling, or overseeing staff or student employees.
Experience working in an academic or public library environment, with an understanding of access services operations. Experience using an integrated library system (ILS) or library services platform (LSP) (e.g., Sierra, Alma), including basic circulation, reporting, or user account functions.
This position provides oversight of library locations during the library’s evening and weekend hours. They may be responsible for opening and/or closing library locations. The position provides service at assigned library locations, checks in/out library material, and responds to inquiries in person, over the phone, and online. This position also assists with retrieval and shelving of library materials and stacks maintenance. This position works closely with student employees and assists with supervising the student employees. The position also acts as a liaison between the evening/weekend staff and the daytime staff as well as with facilities and UPD to ensure clean, safe spaces for patrons.
The successful incumbent must possess the ability to learn and adapt to new software applications and technologies. The successful incumbent must possess the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a high-volume environment, with evidence of strong organizational and communication skills and attention to detail.

This is a part-time appointment. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
