Job summary

Houston Methodist is seeking a Supervisor Coding to oversee inpatient, hospital outpatient, and ambulatory coding activities. The role leads a team of coders, ensures quality and timely coding, and drives performance improvements in collaboration with physicians and revenue cycle staff.

Requirements include an Associate’s degree (or equivalent coding experience), 6 years in coding operations with leadership potential, and RHIT/RHIA/CCS/CPC certification.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree required; will consider additional two years of certified coding experience in lieu of degree.
• Six years of experience in applicable coding operations; HM employees may be considered with one year less if they show progressive leadership.
• RHIT, RHIA, CCS or CPC certification required.
• Thorough knowledge of CPT/ICD-9/ICD-10-DX/ICD-10-PCS coding, MS-DRG, APR-DRG and APC assignment systems.
• Proficient with encoder applications and electronic health record systems; strong computer skills including MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the daily work activities of the coding staff, ensuring quality and productivity.
• Oversee staffing decisions, training, coaching, and performance evaluations.
• Maintain coding standards across inpatient, outpatient, and ambulatory settings; monitor reimbursement trends.
• Lead performance improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
