Job summary

Houston Methodist is seeking an Outpatient Coder to assign accurate ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT codes for outpatient, ER, therapy, and clinic encounters based on EMR documentation, ensuring compliance with AHIMA guidelines.

The role requires an associate degree or higher in an AHIMA-accredited program (or two additional years of experience in lieu of degree) and relevant outpatient coding experience or completion of the Coding Apprentice Program.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in an AHIMA-accredited program or two additional years of experience in lieu of degree
• One year of outpatient coding experience or completion of Houston Methodist Coding Apprentice Program
• Must have one of the AHIMA or AAPC certifications listed in requirements

Responsibilities

• Interacts with coding team and stakeholders.
• Participates in coding section meetings and education sessions.
• Responds to requests to code or review coded accounts for accuracy.
• Initiates physician queries to obtain or clarify diagnoses/procedures.
