Job summary

The City of Amarillo is seeking a dedicated inspector to perform building and property inspections under the Community Improvements Manager. You will handle nuisance issues, substandard structures, junk, weeds, and parking enforcement duties to ensure compliance with municipal codes.

Responsibilities include documenting findings, preparing cases for condemnation, testifying in court if needed, and coordinating with other agencies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum one year of public-facing inspection experience.
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
• Must obtain ICC Property Maintenance Code certification within 12 months.
• Valid Texas driver’s license or obtain within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Inspect residential and commercial buildings, mobile homes, signs, and parking areas.
• Investigate complaints and ensure compliance with municipal codes and ordinances.
• Prepare comprehensive reports and notify property owners of violations.
• Coordinate condemnation processes and testify in Municipal Court if required.
• Provide information to the public and collaborate with other agencies.
