Job summary

Acme Industries in Elk Grove Village, IL seeks a skilled CNC Setup Machinist I to set up and operate CNC milling/turning equipment, reading prints, selecting tooling, and editing programs to achieve first‑piece quality.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years of CNC setup experience, strong GD&T abilities, and proficiency with measurement tools. The role emphasizes ownership of part quality, safety, and 5S on the production floor.

Qualifications

Minimum 5 years CNC setup experience in precision machining, job shop, or contract manufacturing.
Ability to plan and execute complex CNC setups independently on mills and/or lathes.
Strong blueprint reading with GD&T, surface finish, and tolerance interpretation.
Proficiency with standard measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, bore gages, thread gages, height gages, indicators).
Ability to edit or create CNC programs at the control (G-code or conversational).
Experience with close-tolerance work (±0.001" or tighter).
High school diploma or GED; vocational/technical machining training preferred.
Ability to lift/move workpieces up to 50 lbs; team lift for heavier parts.
Ability to read and write English; basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

Plan and execute complex CNC setups from drawings, travelers, and setup sheets.
Select tools, fixtures, and workholding and source from crib as needed.
Establish offsets and verify against print requirements before first piece.
Edit or create CNC programs to achieve correct toolpath and feeds/speeds.
Perform first‑piece inspection to verify dimensional conformance.
Complete setup documentation including traveler sign‑offs and first article records.
Operate CNC milling/turning equipment to produce parts per blueprint specs.
Monitor in‑process conformance and adjust offsets to maintain tolerances.
Identify tool wear or process issues and communicate promptly.
Run multiple machines or setups as workload allows.
Read and interpret GD&T on prints; identify critical features and sequence.
