Job summary

Acme Industries is seeking a skilled CNC Setup Machinist I to plan and execute complex CNC setups on milling and/or turning machines. The role emphasizes first‑piece quality, numerical control editing, and process ownership in a precision shop environment.

You will read engineering drawings, select tooling, and verify tolerances while maintaining tight quality and safety standards. On-site work in Elk Grove Village, IL with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of CNC setup experience in a precision machining environment.
• Ability to plan and execute complex setups independently on CNC mills and/or lathes.
• Strong blueprint reading ability including GD&T and tolerance interpretation.
• Proficiency with standard measurement tools: calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, thread gauges.
• Ability to edit or create CNC programs at the control (conversational or G-code).
• Experience with close-tolerance work (±0.001 or tighter).
• High school diploma or GED; vocational/technical training in machining preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute complex CNC setups from drawings and travelers across milling and/or turning equipment.
• Select cutting tools, fixtures, and workholding; source as needed.
• Establish offsets and verify against print requirements before first piece.
• Edit or create CNC programs to achieve correct toolpaths and clearances.
• Perform first‑piece inspection to verify dimensional conformance.
• Maintain setup documentation and traveler/first article records.
• Operate CNC milling/turning equipment to produce parts to specifications.
• Monitor in-process conformance and adjust offsets to maintain tolerance.
• Identify tool wear or process issues and communicate promptly.
• Complete in-process inspection per control plan and quality requirements.
• Support shift handoffs and mentor junior machinists.
