Job summary

Acme Industries in Elk Grove Village, IL is seeking a CNC Setup Machinist I to plan and execute complex CNC setups and write or edit programs for milling and turning operations. You will perform first-piece inspections, establish tool offsets, and ensure parts meet tight tolerances and finish specs on high‑quality castings and forgings.

The role requires strong blueprint reading, GD&T interpretation, and proficiency with measurement tools.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of CNC setup experience in a precision machining environment.
• Strong blueprint reading ability including GD&T and tolerance interpretation.
• Proficiency with standard measurement tools: calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, thread gauges, height gauges, indicators.
• Ability to edit or create CNC programs at the control (conversational or G-code).
• Experience with close-tolerance work routinely holding ±0.001
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and setup sheets.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute complex CNC setups from drawings, travelers, and setup sheets across milling and/or turning equipment.
• Select tooling, fixtures, and offsets; verify against print requirements before first run.
• Operate CNC mills/turns and monitor in-process conformance; adjust offsets as needed.
• Perform first-piece inspection and document results; raise issues to Engineering/Quality as needed.
• Read GD&T callouts and ensure compliance with control plans and traveler requirements.
• Mentor operators and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
