Job summary

The Alden Network in Chicago needs a CNA in training to assist residents with activities of daily living and care services under nurse supervision. You will help implement care plans, participate in care conferences, and support a warm, safe environment across the unit.

Required are completion of a state-approved CNA program, passing the competency exam, registry listing within 120 days, and CPR certification or initiation within two weeks.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of a state-approved CNA training program prior to hire.
• Must pass the CNA Competency Examination and be listed on the Healthcare Worker Registry within 120 days of hire.
• Be at least 16 years of age, with temperate habits, good moral character, and trustworthy.
• Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
• Must possess current CPR certificate or become certified within two weeks of employment.
• Demonstrates interest and knowledge in caring for the ill, disabled, and elderly; able to work with staff and residents.
• Must read, write, and speak English clearly; able to relate to diverse people.

Responsibilities

• Assist with care and services related to activities of daily living as directed by staff nurse.
• Develop and participate in a written plan of care for each resident.
• Attend care plan conferences and family meetings when invited.
• Report concerns or complaints to the Administrator.
• Make rounds to ensure residents are safe and comfortable.
• Maintain a warm, personable atmosphere and calm environment in the department.
• Participate in in-service education programs.
• Assist in orientation of new Alden staff to policies and procedures.
• Inventory and store resident belongings and assist with packing when transferring or discharged.
• Take routine measurements such as blood pressure, temperature, and height/weight as needed.
• Document intake/output and monitor meal consumption; report changes to the nurse.
• Assist with bedmaking, linen changes, and room upkeep; notify housekeeping as needed.
• Respond promptly to call lights and telephone calls; run errands as requested.
• Maintain safety equipment and report hazards to the Staff Nurse immediately.
• Support Quality Assurance activities within the Nursing Department.
