Job summary

General Dynamics Information Technology, Inc. seeks a Cloud Application Engineer to support NIAID, running a hybrid AWS/Windows hosting platform. You will define infrastructure in Terraform, ship code via GitHub, and monitor deployments for reliability.

The role spans moving on-prem workloads to AWS and improving them as they migrate. You will collaborate with application owners and software engineers to plan, implement, and automate across the stack, ensuring high availability and secure

Qualifications

• BA/BS or equivalent and six to eight years of related experience, including a minimum of three years hands-on with AWS.
• Minimum of three years hands-on AWS experience across IAM, EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, Route 53, SSM, and CloudTrail.
• Terraform from scratch — modules, remote state, lifecycle management.
• Five years deploying on Windows Server 2019/2022/2025 with IIS and .NET workloads.
• Experience with SQL Server and AWS RDS for SQL Server.

Responsibilities

• Deploying, hardening, and troubleshooting Windows applications on Windows Server and IIS.
• Administering SQL Server databases across on-prem and Amazon RDS.
• Defining AWS infrastructure as code in Terraform.
• Building and maintaining deployment pipelines with GitHub Actions and AWS CodeBuild.
• Fronting applications with AWS load balancing and WAF services.
• Instrumenting the platform with dashboards and alerts and retiring noisy alerts.
• Migrating Windows apps from on-prem to AWS and refactoring architecture as needed.
• Automating routine operational work into self-service capabilities.
• Monitoring health and responding to critical alerts.
• Documenting processes and configuration information for supported applications.
• Occasionally presenting on DevOps and cloud practices.
