Job summary

General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) is seeking an AWS Cloud Engineer to support the NIAID team in Rockville, MD. You will own infrastructure design, implement IaC with Terraform, and mentor junior engineers while managing Windows Server, AD and SQL Server estates.

The role is hybrid with 3 days onsite per week in Rockville, MD, requiring Public Trust clearance and onsite fingerprinting as part of the process.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of IT experience
• Proven ability to own cloud infrastructure design and set technical direction
• Translate requirements into technical solutions
• Hands-on AWS across compute, storage, networking, database, IAM, backup and monitoring

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain highly available AWS environments for reliability and cost efficiency.
• Build and manage infrastructure as code using Terraform including reusable modules and pipelines.
• Develop automation tooling, scripts, and lightweight internal apps (PowerShell, Python) for provisioning and operations.
• Build developer-facing tooling and internal APIs to speed delivery.
• Administer Windows Server, perform performance tuning and RCA.
• Administer Active Directory, including AD DS, GPO, DNS, DHCP, cert services, and AWS AD integration.
• Administer SQL Server on EC2 and RDS, including backup/recovery, HA, and tuning.
• Support migration of Windows and SQL workloads from on prem to AWS.
• Monitor health with Datadog and CloudWatch; drive incident response and reliability improvements.
• Serve as escalation point for complex incidents and lead RCA.
• Maintain backup/DR configurations and participate in restore testing.
• Perform capacity planning, cost optimization, and tagging.
• Develop technical documentation and mentor junior engineers.
• Apply AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate IaC development and troubleshooting
