MercyOne in Des Moines, IA is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant to provide hands-on patient care in a fast-paced clinical setting. You will greet patients, take vital signs, and assist providers with examinations and routine procedures.

The role requires CMA or RMA certification (or equivalent) and BLS, with additional items such as medication administration and phlebotomy as needed. A strong emphasis on accuracy, safety, and patient communication is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Valid CMA certification or valid RMA certification if applicable.
• Medication Aide course or certification if applicable.
• BLS certification or to be obtained within 3 months of hire.
• Mandatory Reporter abuse training completed within 3 months of hire.

Responsabilités

• Perform general patient care following established standards and procedures.
• Greet and prepare patients for the healthcare provider.
• Obtain and record vital signs (BP, temp, pulse, respiration, height, weight, allergies, meds).
• Draw blood and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis when required.
• Administer medications and vaccines (oral, injectable, topical, etc.).
• May perform routine tests such as EKGs.
• Schedule diagnostic tests and follow up on completion.
• Communicate test results and care plans to patients as directed.
• Maintain instruments and rooms; ensure cleanliness and stocking.
• Document care plans and results in the medical record.
• Escalate non-routine issues to the practice manager or providers.
• Ensure safety checks and privacy protections are followed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management or providers.

Formation

High school diploma or equivalent

Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification

Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification

Medication Aide course/certification

Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider

Mandatory Reporter training

Non-Certified Radiologic Technician (NCT) training (if applicable)
