Job summary

St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood, CA is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) to join our accredited laboratory team. The CLS will perform complex tests across Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, and more, while upholding quality controls and safety standards.

Qualifications

• ASCP certification or equivalent within 1 year of employment preferred.
• One year hospital laboratory work experience preferred but not required.
• Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or MLT from an accredited institution.
• Possession of a current and valid state Clinical Laboratory Scientist license.

Responsibilities

• Perform waived, moderate, or highly complex tests per CLIA and state regulations.
• Adhere to lab procedures for collection, processing, analysis and reporting.
• Maintain quality control policies and document corrective actions.
• Identify problems affecting test performance and notify supervisor if needed.
• Operate manual and automated methods in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology.
• Perform and document maintenance on instruments and equipment as needed.
• Review accuracy of patient results prior to release.
• Recognize age-specific differences in results from newborns to geriatrics.
• Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested properly; no improper collaboration.
• May perform venipuncture or capillary puncture across age groups.
• Assist in development and maintenance of lab policies and procedures.
• Comply with safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, HR policies; may be Lead Tech.
• May have LIS/POCT related responsibilities.
