Job summary

Qualifications

• Requires minimum one-year work experience performing high complexity testing in hematology, chemistry, blood bank, and microbiology.
• Training or work experience must be comprehensive to cover all areas of the clinical laboratory.
• Bachelor's Degree in biological science, chemical, physical, biological science, Medical Laboratory Technology and/or equivalent from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements as stated in California Code of Registration, Title 17, Section 1032, Clinical Laboratory Scientist (generalist).
• Requires current and valid California State License.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to the laboratory's procedures for collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
• Follow quality control policies and document corrective actions.
• Identify problems that may affect test performance and escalate.
• Perform procedures in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology and related disciplines.
• Maintain instruments and equipment; perform maintenance.
• Review accuracy of patient results prior to reporting.
• Recognize age-specific differences in expected results.
• Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested correctly and no prohibited collaboration.
• May perform venipuncture or capillary puncture from newborns to geriatrics.
• Assist in development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.
• Adhere to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness and HR policies.
• In absence of supervisor, may serve as Lead Tech and handle shift responsibilities.
