Job summary

Advocate Health Care is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist to perform, evaluate and monitor laboratory tests following established protocols. The role includes calibration and maintenance of instruments, QA/QC oversight, and ensuring proper specimen labeling across newborn to adult patients.

The successful candidate will support training of staff, assist in education protocols, and contribute to improving procedures while meeting accrediting standards in a demanding clinical setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or NAACLS-approved Medical Technology program in a science-related field.
• No experience required.
• Able to work in a fast-paced clinical laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

• Performs, evaluates, and monitors laboratory tests within established protocols; adjusts workflow to complete tasks timely.
• Performs, documents calibration, maintenance and repair of instruments and equipment; recognizes instrument malfunction and corrects as needed.
• Performs, documents, and reviews quality control/assurance; evaluates results and takes corrective action when indicated.
• Ensures proper labeling and suitability of specimens; collects specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients per protocol.
• Provides direction, training and technical support to lab staff; may mentor students and residents.
• Contributes to improving lab procedures and processes; ensures compliance with accrediting standards.
• Performs proficiency testing and participates in disease-specific accreditation support; meets turnaround time goals.
• Provides timely, accurate laboratory results for critical care departments (ED, ICU, OR) during high-acuity events.
