Job summary

Qualifications

• GS-04: Six months general experience and six months specialized experience in lab support or related field.
• GS-04: Or an associate degree with one year of training in a certified lab assistant program.
• GS-04: Or one year of study with chemistry/biology and a year of lab practice.
• GS-05: One year specialized experience in CLIA-waived testing, specimen collection, lab accessioning and reporting.
• GS-06: One year specialized experience in standardized clinical lab testing and QA/QA records.
• GS-07: Variety of clinical lab tests, result validation, equipment maintenance, and quality compliance.

Responsibilities

• Perform chemical, hematology, microbiology, urinalysis, serology, immunology, and blood banking tests.
• Evaluate test results and troubleshoot to ensure accuracy.
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and prepare reagents and media.
• Collect, process, and accession patient specimens; track specimens in systems.
• Validate and document results; communicate with healthcare providers; support accreditation and safety requirements.

Education

Associate degree in certified laboratory assistant program

Bachelor's degree with major or 24 semester hours in chemistry/biological sciences

One year of study with chemistry/biological sciences plus a lab training program

Two years of study with 12 semester hours in chemistry/biological sciences
