Job summary

Indian Health Service is seeking a Medical Technician (Laboratory Support) to perform a range of laboratory tests across chemistry, hematology, microbiology, urinalysis, serology, and blood banking. You will collect specimens, process them, and ensure quality and compliance with CAP/CLIA standards.

This role requires adherence to security and background checks for federal employment and supports patient care in American Indian communities.

Qualifications

• Six months general experience in a related field.
• Six months specialized experience performing medical laboratory support work.
• Associate degree with one year of certified laboratory assistant training.
• One year of chemistry/biological sciences study plus a lab training program.
• Two years of chemistry/biological sciences study related to the position.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing in chemistry, hematology, microbiology, urinalysis, immunology, serology, and blood banking.
• Evaluate test results, recognize normal/abnormal findings, and troubleshoot as needed.
• Operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory instruments; prepare reagents and culture media; monitor quality control.
• Collect and process patient specimens; evaluate acceptability; accession and track in LIS; prepare specimens for referral testing.
• Validate and document results; communicate findings to providers; support CAP/CLIA/safety compliance and QA activities.
