Job summary

Advocate Health seeks a Lab/Phlebotomy Technician for the Central Processing Lab at Carolinas Medical Center. The role handles venipuncture, specimen processing, registration, and phone support, with strict safety and sterile techniques.

The position is full time, 3rd shift (Mon-Fri, 10:00 PM–6:30 AM), 40 hours weekly, with pay range $19.80–$29.70 per hour. A high school diploma is required; phlebotomy certification is preferred where phlebotomy is assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; Certification in phlebotomy preferred for facilities where phlebotomy is an assigned duty.
• Knowledge of laboratory techniques to perform minor laboratory tests.
• Familiarity with laboratory equipment and testing to operate, clean, and sterilize.
• Knowledge of medical terminology to communicate with staff.
• Knowledge of computer systems and applications.

Responsibilities

• Collects and processes patient blood by venipuncture/capillary puncture timely and accurate.
• Processes nonblood specimens promptly and accurately.
• Assists in specimen preparation, receipt, and transport.
• Performs patient registration and handles phone support with care.
• Maintains competency with hospital and laboratory information systems.
• Trains new team members and students in standard work processes.
• Receives lab orders, prepares documentation, and runs routine tests.
• Maintains documentation and labels specimens per standards.
• Maintains equipment, stocks supplies, and keeps workspace organized.
• Practices sterile technique and handles infectious materials with PPE.
