Job summary

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; completion of accredited phlebotomy training program preferred.
• Experience with phlebotomy in a lab or hospital setting preferred.
• Experience with electronic medical records and patient privacy preferred.

Responsibilities

• Obtain and properly identify blood specimens by performing venipunctures and capillary punctures in all age groups.
• Access, select, release and print test orders from the electronic medical record system; transcribe outside orders as needed.
• Process specimens according to established procedures; prepare specimens for transport per IATA regulations.
• Perform and document waived point of care tests; maintain quality waived test results.
• Instruct patients in proper specimen collection procedures and answer questions.
• Follow phlebotomist service standards and protect patient privacy.
• Assist with teaching, training and mentoring phlebotomy interns and trainees.
• Maintain and monitor supply stock in the laboratory.
• Travel to alternate clinic locations as needed.
