Job summary

Stormont Vail Health in Kansas is seeking a Phlebotomist to provide blood collection services in the hospital setting, including ED/Trauma, Critical Care, medical floors, and surgery. You will perform venipuncture and capillary puncture, identify specimens, and ensure proper labeling and transport.

You will follow safety, privacy, and infection control standards, use the EMR system for orders, and participate in teaching phlebotomy interns.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma / GED required.
• Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program may be substituted for education.
• Experience with phlebotomy; hospital or lab setting preferred.
• Venipuncture and capillary puncture experience preferred.
• Experience with electronic medical records and patient privacy.

Responsibilities

• Obtain and properly identify blood specimens by performing venipunctures and capillary punctures in all age groups.
• Access, select, release and print test orders from the electronic medical record system.
• Process specimens according to established procedures and prepare for transport per IATA regulations.
• Perform waived point of care tests and maintain quality waived test results.
• Assist with teaching, training, and mentoring phlebotomist interns and trainees.
• Travel to outside locations for phlebotomy collections when requested.
