Job summary

H&R Block is seeking an Accounting Specialist to maintain accurate financial records for Block Advisors clients. You will document transactions, prepare reports, and assist with compliance, providing bookkeeping and payroll services for small business clients.

You will work with Tax Advisors to support growth, perform reconciliations, generate financial statements, and ensure timely recording of financial data. This role emphasizes client service and accurate financial reporting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of bookkeeping practices and GAAP.
• National Bookkeeper and Payroll certifications or ability to obtain them.
• Microsoft Office experience (Word, Excel, Open Office).
• Ability to multitask in multiple window applications.
• Familiarity with bookkeeping software, spreadsheets, and databases; adaptable to new tools.
• Analytical and detail-oriented.
• Strong verbal and written communication.
• Client services experience.
• Ability to complete assigned projects independently.
• Ability to interpret complex instructions, policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Enter financial information into accounting or financial systems in compliance with reporting requirements.
• Perform basic accounting tasks including data entry, bank reconciliations, and payroll management.
• Assist Tax Advisors with tax return data entry and uploading returns to the Block Advisors Fulfillment Network.
• Prepare reconciliations of accounts and categorize transactions; compile monthly and quarterly reporting.
• Address client accounting irregularities and provide excellent customer service.
• Share bookkeeping and payroll information with Account Managers and Tax Advisors to support service delivery.
• Prepare financial reports such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
• Communicate with account managers, clients, suppliers, vendors, and banking contacts to ensure service delivery.
• Assist in generating Block Advisor growth opportunities and retention through referrals and partnerships.
