Job summary

Groundswell is seeking an engineer to take a technical approach to incompletely defined business needs and turn them into working software. This is a hands-on, client-facing role that collaborates with business stakeholders to refine requirements and deliver production-quality AI-enabled solutions.

The work spans client delivery, internal product development, rapid proofs of concept, and internal enablement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent ability.
• Minimum 1+ years of professional software development experience.
• Hands-on experience building apps that integrate large language models (prompting, retrieval augmentation, extraction, tools).
• Experience with APIs, data handling, and user-facing functionality.
• Familiarity with Python, TypeScript, or SQL and working with imperfect data.
• Ability to conduct requirements conversations with non-technical stakeholders.
• Willingness to question a design and advocate alternatives.
• Ability to work through ambiguous requirements with guidance.
• Clear written and verbal communication.
• U.S. Citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Take defined technical approach and turn into production-quality functionality.
• Participate in requirements discussions with business stakeholders.
• Propose alternative approaches during solution design.
• Build apps that integrate AI with prompts, retrieval, APIs, data handling, and UI.
• Create evaluation sets from real data and report findings.
• Investigate failures and implement fixes.
• Support client demonstrations and POCs.
• Seek feedback and understand client needs and AI practices.
• Document work with logging, traceability, validation, and failure handling.
• Move between client delivery, internal product work, POCs as needed.
• Raise blockers early when needed.
• Contribute reusable patterns and evaluation harnesses.
