Job summary

Groundswell is seeking an engineer to turn incompletely defined business needs into working software by integrating AI capabilities and defining requirements with stakeholders.

This hands-on, client-facing role spans delivering production-grade AI features, rapid proofs of concept, and internal enablement. You will adapt across client delivery and internal product work while maintaining clear communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent demonstrated ability in a technical field.
• 1+ years of professional software development experience.
• Hands-on experience building applications that integrate large language models, including prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, structured extraction, and/or tool use.
• Experience integrating AI capabilities with APIs, data handling, and user-facing functionality.
• Familiarity with Python, TypeScript, or SQL, and API integrations.

Responsibilities

• Take a defined technical approach and build production-quality functionality.
• Refine requirements with business stakeholders to understand workflow and outcomes.
• Propose alternative approaches during solution design and simplify AI components where possible.
• Build end-to-end applications integrating AI capabilities, prompts, retrieval, APIs, and UI features.
• Create evaluation datasets, measure results, and report findings, including inconclusive results.
• Investigate failures and implement fixes to improve capability accuracy.
• Support client demonstrations and proofs-of-concept to show AI benefits.
• Ask thoughtful questions and push for better design decisions.
• Document work with logging, validation methods, and known limitations.
