Job summary

Caltrans is seeking a Classification and Hiring Analyst for a 12 Month Limited Term - Full Time position. The role provides administrative, training and analytical support for the Office of Transactions Services, supervising and guiding Personnel Specialists, and ensuring transactions comply with policies, labor contracts, and regulations.

The incumbent acts as a staff resource, leads training, reviews work for accuracy, and monitors workload using Excel and other databases.

Responsibilities

• Acts as a staff resource, lead, and trainer to Personnel Specialists and Senior Personnel Specialists within OTS.
• Reviews Personnel Specialists’ completed work and answers general and complex technical questions from staff.
• Ensures personnel transactions are in conformance with departmental and control agency policies and procedures, labor contracts, and applicable laws and regulations.
• Reviews training concepts with new Personnel Specialists to ensure understanding and ease of implementation, discusses errors and assists with corrections.
• Meets with Personnel Supervisor I to provide feedback on Personnel Specialists’ work and recommend additional training, with progress included in performance reports.
• Monitors and tracks workload for completion using logs and databases (Excel, TEAMS, Filemaker Pro, MOBIUS/COGNOS).
• Provides assistance with vacant and backlogged work, including personnel action documentation, employment history updates, pay/releases, appointment/separation documents, health and dental forms, and leave balance reconciliation.
