Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a CDL-A driver to pick up and deliver freight between service centers and customers while supporting the sales process. The role requires performing pre-trip inspections, securing loads, operating various tractor-trailer configurations, and ensuring DOT compliance.

Starting pay is $32.20 per hour with opportunities to handle hazardous materials and long combination vehicles as needed.

Qualifications

• CDL Class A with double/triple, hazmat and tank endorsements; automatic transmission restriction allowed.
• One year of experience in the last three years or completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) per hiring standards.
• Must meet DOT FMC 391 regulatory requirements.
• LCV qualifications apply in listed states with required standards.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift/carry up to 100 pounds several times a week.
• Ability to sit, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck.
• Ability to follow instructions and required training.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer, including doubles/triples and straight trucks.
• Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies.
• Move freight using forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck.
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures.
• Collect payments for freight charges when required.
• Follow dispatch instructions and communicate delays or problems.
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs and solicit additional business.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Ask for additional business and provide leads to sales.
• May be required to chain vehicle tires.
