Job summary

Markel is seeking a claims professional to resolve average complexity and low to mid exposure claims. You will investigate, evaluate, negotiate and settle claims by reviewing policy provisions and accompanying documentation, under the direction of a manager.

Responsibilities include handling coverage reviews, drafting positions, reserving within authority, and collaborating with teams to deliver timely, cost-effective closures while maintaining excellent service levels.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• Advanced degree or focused technical degree a plus.
• Must have or be eligible to receive claims adjuster license.
• Completion of basic insurance courses or industry designation.

Responsibilities

• Typically handles low to moderate exposure claims.
• Confirms coverage by reviewing policies and documents; analyzes and communicates positions.
• Drafts coverage position letters independently.
• Uses investigation and settlement techniques to achieve timely closure.
• Conducts, coordinates, and directs investigation into loss facts and damages.
• Evaluates information on coverage, liability, and damages to determine exposure.
• Sets reserves within authority or makes recommendations.
• Maintains diary system to resolve issues and ensure closure.
• Negotiates and settles claims directly with claimant.
• Prepares reports by collecting and summarizing information.
• Participates in special projects or assists team members.
• Provides timely service and meets SLAs; responds to inquiries.
• Identifies subrogation opportunities and fraud potential.
• Shows strong customer service to internal and external customers.
