Job summary

Markel, a Fortune 500 insurer with a global footprint, seeks an experienced claims professional to investigate, evaluate, negotiate and settle assigned average complexity claims in the United States. You will review policy language, draft positions, and coordinate investigations with internal teams while maintaining high customer service standards.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
Must have or be eligible to receive claims adjuster license.
Successful completion of basic insurance courses or achievement of industry designation (INS, IEA, AIC, ARM, SCLA, CPCU)

Responsibilities

Handles low to moderate exposure claims.
Reviews policies to confirm coverage and communicates positions.
Drafts coverage position letters independently.
Uses investigation and settlement techniques to close claims cost-effectively and timely.
Conducts and coordinates investigations into loss facts and damages.
Evaluates coverage, liability and damages to determine insured's exposure.
Sets reserves within authority or advises on reserve changes.
Proactively resolves issues and ensures timely closure of claims.
Negotiates and settles claims with claimants.
Prepares reports by collecting and summarizing information.
Participates in special projects or supports team members.
Maintains service levels and responds to inquiries.
Identifies subrogation opportunities and fraud potential.
