Job summary

Markel Group seeks a Claims Specialist to resolve average complexity and low to mid exposure claims. The role will investigate, evaluate, negotiate and settle assigned claims by collecting and analyzing data according to policy provisions, and decisions will be made within the assigned authority under the guidance of a manager.

Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, a valid claims license, and two years of claims handling experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• Advanced degree, or focused technical degree a plus.
• Must have or be eligible to receive claims adjuster license.
• Completion of basic insurance courses or industry designation (INS, IEA, AIC, ARM, SCLA, CPCU).

Responsibilities

• Typically handles low to moderate exposure claims.
• Confirms coverage by reviewing policies and communicates positions.
• Drafts coverage position letters independently.
• Investigates, negotiates and settles claims within authority.
• Evaluates information on coverage, liability, and damages.
• Sets reserves within authority or makes recommendations to manager.
• Prepares reports by collecting and summarizing information.
• Provides timely service and meets SLA requirements.
• Identifies subrogation opportunities and fraud potential.
