Job summary

Markel is seeking a claims examiner to resolve moderate complexity workers' compensation and casualty claims across multiple jurisdictions. The role requires collaboration with underwriters, defense counsel and internal teams to manage resolutions and coverage analyses.

The ideal candidate has college-level education with professional designations preferred, and demonstrated ability to analyze complex issues, set reserves, and communicate findings effectively. Travel is expected (10–20%).

Qualifications

• Minimum 4+ years of insurance claims experience or similar background.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to convey complex issues clearly.
• Ability to analyze complex claims, negotiate settlements and collaborate across teams.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, negotiate and settle non-complex primary and excess casualty claims across multiple jurisdictions.
• Analyze coverage under primary and excess casualty policies and draft routine coverage correspondence.
• Manage nationwide litigation with defense counsel and coordinate with underwriting and other internal teams.
• Communicate developments to management and stakeholders; participate in claims initiatives and training.
