Job summary

Markel Group is seeking an Associate Claims Specialist in Milwaukee to investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and settle low to mid exposure claims. You’ll review policies, draft coverage positions, and set reserves within authority while maintaining strong customer service.

Qualified candidates have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, claims license eligibility, and solid Excel/Office skills. Some travel to conferences may be required and insurance designations are a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• Advanced degree, or focused technical degree a plus.
• Must have or be eligible to receive claims adjuster license.
• Successful completion of basic insurance courses or achievement of industry designation (INS, IEA, AIC, ARM, SCLA, CPCU).

Responsibilities

• Typically handles low to moderate low exposure claims.
• Confirms coverage of claims by reviewing policies and documents; analyzes coverage.
• Drafts coverage position letters independently.
• Uses investigation and settlement techniques to achieve timely closure.
• Conducts, coordinates, and directs investigation into loss facts and damages.
• Evaluates information on coverage, liability, and damages to determine insured’s exposure.
• Sets reserves within authority or makes recommendations to manager.
• Proactively resolves outstanding issues using diary system for timely closure.
• Negotiates and settles claims directly with claimants.
• Prepares reports by collecting and summarizing information.
• Participates in special projects or assists team members as requested.
• Provides timely service throughout the life cycle of the claim and meets SLAs.
• Identifies subrogation opportunities and fraud potential; refers as needed.
• Strong emphasis on customer service to internal and external customers.
