Job summary

Talon Hiring Solutions partners with a leading engineering and infrastructure organization to identify a Principal Civil Engineer to provide technical leadership, engineering oversight, and strategic guidance across large-scale projects. The ideal candidate will have 15+ years of civil engineering experience, a PE license, and a proven track record in site development, stormwater, utilities, and complex permitting.

You will mentor teams and drive best practices across disciplines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• 15+ years of progressive civil engineering experience.
• Proven leadership on large multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of site development, stormwater, utilities, drainage and grading.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, AutoCAD, Bluebeam and related software.
• Willingness to travel periodically for meetings and site visits.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain civil engineering standards, design practices, and quality expectations.

What You’ll Do

• Serve as a senior technical authority for civil engineering projects across the organization.

• Establish and maintain civil engineering standards, design practices, procedures, and quality expectations.

• Provide expert guidance on complex engineering, design, permitting, and constructability challenges.

• Lead technical reviews and approve major engineering deliverables.

• Oversee civil engineering design activities for large-scale infrastructure, industrial, commercial, and utility projects.

• Direct the development and review of:

• Site grading and drainage plans

• Stormwater management systems

• Utility infrastructure

• Roadway and access improvements

• Erosion and sediment control measures

• Foundations and site development packages

• Review engineering calculations, studies, reports, specifications, and construction documentation.

• Provide technical leadership throughout project planning, design, permitting, construction, and commissioning phases.

• Collaborate with structural, mechanical, electrical, environmental, and construction teams to ensure successful project delivery.

• Support project planning, budgeting, risk management, and resource allocation activities.

• Participate in client meetings, technical presentations, and project strategy discussions.

• Support proposal development, business development initiatives, and project pursuits.

• Mentor engineers, project leads, and technical staff while fostering professional growth and knowledge sharing.

• Support recruiting, workforce planning, and talent development initiatives.

• Promote engineering excellence, innovation, quality, and continuous improvement across the organization.

What You’ll Bring

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.

• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.

• 15+ years of progressive civil engineering experience.

• Demonstrated success leading engineering efforts on large, multidisciplinary infrastructure, industrial, utility, commercial, or EPC-related projects.

• Extensive experience with:

• Site development design

• Stormwater management

• Utility infrastructure

• Drainage and grading systems

• Foundation coordination

• Construction support activities

• Strong knowledge of civil engineering codes, industry standards, permitting requirements, and best practices.

• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and related engineering software.

• Experience with GIS platforms, MicroStation, and hydraulic modeling software is a plus.

• Strong leadership, mentoring, and organizational development capabilities.

• Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.

• Proven ability to influence project outcomes and lead technical teams.

• Ability to balance high-level strategic responsibilities with hands‑on technical involvement.

• Willingness to travel periodically for project meetings, site visits, and client engagements.
