Job summary

Coast Guard Community Services Command is seeking a dedicated Child Care Assistant for the Alameda Child Development Center. This full-time position supports early childhood education through planned activities and caregiver-led interactions, ensuring a safe, engaging environment for children and youth.

The role requires English literacy, 1 year of childcare experience, and the ability to lift up to 45 pounds.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; English literacy required.
• One year of general experience working with children in a group setting.
• Ability to lift up to 45 pounds and work indoors/outdoors.
• Must pass Tier 1 background checks and Civilian Medical Clearance at placement and every 2 years.
• Preferred: 2 years of education beyond high school or 1-year vocational childcare certificate.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute early childhood education experiences to promote development.
• Collaborate with the director and teachers to implement age-appropriate curriculum.
• Create a safe, positive environment encouraging interactions among children, youth and adults.
• Lead planned activities and monitor participation and safety.
• Conduct daily health checks, maintain records, and communicate with parents.
• Assist with snacks/meals where applicable; monitor classroom and playground areas.
• Perform routine care tasks and attend to children's needs.
• Other duties as assigned.
