Job summary

The U.S. Coast Guard’s Child Development Center in Kodiak, AK is seeking a Developmental Child Care Assistant (INT 6844) to support early childhood education and safe, engaging activities for children in a challenging coastal environment.

This developmental role offers intermittent hours (0-19 per week) and a pathway to higher pay levels. Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, be English proficient, and able to lift up to 45 pounds.

Qualifications

• 1. High school diploma or GED and at least 18 years of age.
• 2. Must be able to read, write and speak in English.
• 3. Ability to promote and foster effective working relationships with children, youth, and coworkers.
• 4. Ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds and move between indoor and outdoor environments.
• 5. Must complete Tier 1 background investigation and renew every 5 years.
• 6. Must pass Civilian Medical Clearance examination at preplacement and every two years.

Responsibilities

• Plans and executes age-appropriate early childhood education experiences with a variety of materials to promote development.
• Works with the director and teachers to develop and implement curriculum and activities.
• Establishes a program environment that promotes positive interactions among children, youth, and adults.
• Leads planned activities for participants and interacts with staff, parents and the command.
• Maintains program participation data and completes required daily reports.
