Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Cincinnati seeks a Physician – Physiatrist to serve as Chief of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service.

This role includes oversight, planning, and development of all PM&R functions and programs within the Cincinnati VA Medical Center. The incumbent will direct PM&R and related services to optimize functional recovery, ensure high-quality care, and lead a multifaceted program spanning physiatry, physical therapy, occupational therapy, pain

Qualifications

• United States Citizenship (citizenship requirement)
• Doctor of medicine or equivalent degree (MD/DO)
• Current full and unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
• Residency training in an accredited core specialty
• Board certification eligibility or status
• Proficiency in spoken and written English
• Driving license required
• Preferred: 3–5 years Federal healthcare management experience

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct, and coordinate PM&R service including Physiatry, PT, OT, Pain Management, TBI/Polytrauma, SCI, and amputee services.
• Direct PM&R service to optimize functional recovery.
• Complete timely documentation in EHR using templates and reminders.
• Prescribe medications per federal law and VA/DEA policy with PDMP checks and opioid stewardship.
• Consult with appropriate specialties for complex conditions or advanced interventions.
• Coordinate with Community Care when internal services are unavailable.
• Provide telehealth and credentialing in alignment with DVA policies.
• Oversee personnel management, education, quality/safety initiatives, and compliance with VHA policies.
