An established industry player is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to oversee financial operations and strategy. This full-time, remote role is ideal for a strategic financial executive with a passion for social justice. Founded in 1992, Tides Advocacy provides fiscal sponsorship, infrastructure support, grantmaking, and donor organizing to BIPOC-led initiatives nationwide. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will oversee all aspects of Tides Advocacy’s financial operations, including financial strategy, planning, budgeting, reporting, investment management, and regulatory compliance. Reporting to the CEO and serving as a key advisor to the Board of Directors, the CFO will lead a 12-person Finance team, manage relationships with external partners such as auditors and investment managers, and ensure compliance with 501(c)(4) regulations and political reporting requirements. They will partner closely with the CEO, General Counsel, and Leadership Team to strengthen financial sustainability, drive operational effectiveness, and support fiscally sponsored projects with robust financial stewardship.
The ideal candidate is a strategic and hands-on financial executive with at least 7 years of senior-level finance leadership experience, preferably within nonprofit or 501(c)(4) organizations. They will bring deep expertise in fiscal sponsorship, compliance, investment management, and board engagement. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong people-centered leadership, experience working in unionized environments, and the ability to translate complex financial information into actionable insights for diverse stakeholders. A CPA and/or MBA is highly desirable, along with a passion for racial and social justice and a commitment to Tides Advocacy’s mission and values.
This is a full-time, remote position with preference for candidates based in San Francisco (Bay Area), New York City, Los Angeles, or Chicago. The salary range is $200,000–$230,000 annually, along with a competitive benefits package.
