Job summary

AWS data centers require a hands-on Chief Engineer to oversee critical facility systems and field teams responsible for reliable operation. You will lead ongoing maintenance, incident response, and performance improvements, while coordinating with IT and facilities leadership to ensure safety, efficiency, and uptime.

The role includes travel to active data center sites, cross-functional collaboration, and the delivery of training and standard practices for engineering operations teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or related field).
• Experience with power management and power monitoring systems.
• Experience with MS Excel and MS Word.
• Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret with SCI eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Act as the primary escalation point for facilities issues.
• Oversee operation and management of routine and emergency services on critical systems.
• Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures within SLA.
• Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians and work with Facility Manager to set team culture.
• Create and deploy new standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teams.
• May assist in the build out of new facilities and projects to increase facility efficiency.
• Work outside normal hours for routine maintenance as required.
• Communicate complex technical information to a non-technical audience.
• Coordinate projects with IT managers and other leaders to manage capacity and safety.
• Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to by vendor and Amazon staff.
• Establish building performance benchmarks, analyses, and reports on operations and maintenance.
• Utilize MS Excel, Word, Outlook for day-to-day tasks.
