Job summary

The University of Houston System seeks a Chief Compliance Officer to lead and oversee the institution's compliance programs across its universities. The role directs strategic planning, policy development, and evaluation to ensure adherence to federal and state regulations.

Working with the Office of Legal Affairs and executive management, the CCO will guide training, risk assessment, and incident responses while advancing a culture of lawful and ethical conduct throughout the organization.

Qualifications

• Advanced principles or professional training in a related field (or equivalent).
• J.D. degree is required for this role.
• Minimum 10 years of job-related experience is expected.
• Professional licensing or certification related to the job is required.

Responsibilities

• Guide compliance policy and program direction with executive management and Legal Affairs.
• Develop, initiate, and revise policies to ensure legal and ethical conduct.
• Coordinate strategic compliance programs across UHS and related departments.
• Provide training to compliance programs and clarify duties for staff.
• Identify compliance risks and help design remediation strategies.
• Shape policies to align with government laws and regulations.
• Collaborate with Legal Affairs and Internal Audit to address alleged violations.
• Monitor compliance activities and identify trends and status updates.
• Lead short- and long-term goals for UHS compliance programs.
• Oversee internal reviews to assess regulatory compliance and governance.
• Perform other duties as required.

Education

Master's degree or equivalent

Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree
