Job summary

Turkey Creek Medical Center in Knoxville, TN is seeking a Surgical Technician – Certified to join the operating room team. The role supports the surgical team by preparing the sterile field, passing instruments, and maintaining efficiency and safety in procedures.

The technician ensures instrument readiness, sterile technique, and accurate counts, while assisting with positioning, equipment handling, and perioperative documentation to promote high-quality care.

Qualifications

• Technical School or Associate Degree in Surgical Technology or Applied Sciences is required.
• 0–2 years of operating room surgical technician experience required.
• CST and BLS certifications required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares operating room and ensures instruments, equipment, and supplies are ready based on procedure and physician card.
• Maintains sterile field throughout procedures following aseptic technique.
• Anticipates surgeon needs, passing instruments and supplies accurately during surgeries.
• Handles instruments/equipment per manufacturer instructions and hospital policy, including cleaning and sterilization.
• Performs sponge, needle, and instrument counts with circulating nurse to support patient safety.
• Assists with patient positioning, draping, and transfer under RN direction to ensure safety and readiness.
