Job summary

Turkey Creek Medical Center in Knoxville, TN seeks a Certified Surgical Technician to support the operating room team, maintain sterile fields, and ensure patient safety through precise instrument handling and instrument counts.

This role collaborates with the perioperative team to prep ORs, manage supplies, and uphold infection control standards while contributing to efficient case turnover and high-quality patient care. The shift is 2:30PM - 11:00PM and CST/BLS certifications are required.

Qualifications

• Must be a CST with formal surgical technology training.
• 0–2 years of OR Surgical Technician experience required.
• CST and BLS certifications required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares the operating room by ensuring surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies are properly set up and available based on the procedure and physician preference card.
• Maintains a sterile field throughout the surgical procedure and follows sterile technique.
• Anticipates the needs of the surgeon, passing instruments and supplies accurately and efficiently during procedures.
• Handles instruments and equipment per policy, including sterilization and counts with the circulating nurse.
• Performs and documents sponge, needle, and instrument counts to support patient safety.
• Assists with patient positioning, draping, and transfer under RN direction.
• Maintains physician preference cards and procedural documentation.
• Restocks supplies and prepares rooms for subsequent cases to ensure OR efficiency.
• Performs other duties as assigned and maintains regular attendance.
• Complies with all policies and standards.
