Job summary

The Certified Surgical Technician (CST) at Jefferson Health assists the surgical team in the intraoperative environment, supports sterile technique, and helps ensure patient safety throughout the operative process. This position requires precepting responsibilities and collaboration with perioperative staff to maintain a high standard of care.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a surgical technician training program.
• Prior surgical technician experience preferred.
• Knowledge of effective communication concepts and teamwork.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Familiarity with surgical equipment and aseptic techniques.

Responsibilities

• Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
• Maintains sterile field and prepares OR equipment, instruments and supplies for procedures.
• Participates in team time out and advocates for patient safety and high quality care.
• Provides gowning and gloving assistance for the Surgical team including the Surgeon.
• Assists with preparing the sterile field including draping of the patient and maintaining sterile field integrity.
• Gives thorough report to relief personnel on status of procedure and materials.
• Counts sharps, sponges and instruments with the circulating nurse and initiates corrective action if counts are incorrect.
• Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.
• Maintains supplies and equipment to ensure efficient unit operations.
• Helps maintain a safe, neat, and clean Operating Room environment.
• Acts as primary preceptor to other surgical team members as needed.
