Job summary

Ascension Health, at Ascension Saint Thomas Dekalb in Smithville, TN, seeks a Surgical Technologist to support the operating room. You will facilitate safe, efficient surgical procedures and prepare the operating suite with sterile instruments and supplies, handing requested instruments to the surgeon during operations.

The role requires a NBSTSA credential, BLS within 30 days of hire, and appropriate education as listed.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider certification within 30 days of hire.
• Surgical Tech credentialed from NBSTSA required.
• Note Tennessee Code reference for non-certified applicants regarding experience and training.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures.
• Prepare surgical operating suite with sterile drapes and instruments; hand instruments to surgeon as requested.
• Assist with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.

How you’ll make an impact in this role

• Facilitate the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures.

• Prepare surgical operating suite with sterile drapes and sterile solutions as well as appropriate sterile and non-sterile instruments and supplies Hand required/requested instruments and supplies to surgeon during surgery.

• Assist with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.

• Maintain instruments in an organized manner and monitor/track instrument counts throughout procedures.

What minimum requirements you’ll need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

• Surgical Tech credentialed from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required. Per Tennessee Code (TCA) 68-57-101(a), non-certified applicants must have 18 months of surgical technologist experience in the 3 years preceding 5/21/07; or began the appropriate surgical technologist training prior to 5/21/07 and completed by 5/21/10.

Education:

• High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
