Job summary

Ascension Saint Thomas Midtown is seeking an OR Surgical Assistant to join the intraoperative team. You will provide high-level assistance to surgeons, including tissue handling, retraction, and suctioning, ensuring precise exposure and patient safety during complex procedures.

Responsibilities include tailoring the surgical suite to surgeon preferences, maintaining sterile turnover, and prioritizing patient dignity and comfort throughout the case.

Qualifications

  • BLS Provider required within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date; American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • Certified First Surgical Assistant obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date; multiple certs accepted as listed.

  • Elite Surgical Partnership: support surgeon with tissue manipulation, retraction, and advanced suctioning as part of the intraoperative team.
  • Operational Excellence: manage OR rhythm, customize the suite to surgeon preferences, and ensure sterile turnarounds.
  • Precision Anatomy Access: position and stabilize patient and equipment to provide optimal surgical exposure while ensuring patient dignity and comfort.

  • Elite Surgical Partnership: Serve as a seamless extension of the surgeon's hands. During complex procedures, you will provide high-level assistance including tissue manipulation, retraction, and advanced suctioning acting as a critical pillar of the intraoperative team.
  • Operational Excellence: Own the rhythm of the OR. From customizing the suite to meet specific surgeon preferences to managing streamlined, sterile turnarounds, your precision ensures we are always ready for the next life-changing case.
  • Precision Anatomy Access: Act as the guardian of patient safety and surgical visibility. You'll masterfully manage patient positioning and stabilizing equipment to provide optimal surgical exposure while prioritizing the dignity and comfort of those in your care.
What minimum requirements you’ll need
Licensure / Certification / Registration:
  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • Certified First Surgical Assistant obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required. Hired/transferred before 5/30/21 not required to hold certification. Accepted: National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting; American Board of Surgical Assistants; or National Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistants.
Education:
  • High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

  • Schedule will include 2 x 8's and 2 x 12's
