Job summary

Rocky Hill Surgery Center is seeking an experienced Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to join our great team of professionals. You will work in a fast-paced ophthalmology ambulatory setting with no weekends, holidays or on-call rotation.

  • High school diploma or GED; graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
  • One year OR experience preferred; ASC or orthopedic experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of sterile technique, instrumentation, and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Review the surgical schedule and prepare case carts, instrumentation, and supplies.
  • Maintain the sterile field and practice aseptic technique.
  • Assist with patient positioning, skin prep, and equipment setup as directed by the RN Circulator.
  • Count instruments, sponges, and sharps; handle specimens per policy.
  • Document implants, medications, and equipment usage as required.

Our busy ophthalmology surgery center provides outpatient surgical procedures to Rocky Hill, CT and the surrounding communities. We are looking for a Certified Surgical Technologists (CST) who is a team player, detail oriented, and are committed to delivering excellent care to our patients.

Position Title: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)

Classification: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Or Manager/Director of Nursing/Clinical Director

Status: Full Time – 36 hours per week

Shift: Monday-Thursday/9-hour shift

Wage Range: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour

Position Summary:

The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) is responsible for providing intraoperative support to surgeons and the clinical team by preparing and maintaining the sterile field, anticipating the needs of the surgical team, and ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. The CST follows all AORN guidelines, infection control practices, and manufacturer instructions for use to support an optimal surgical environment in a fast-paced ambulatory surgery center.

Pre-Operative Responsibilities:
  • Review the surgical schedule and prepare case carts, instrumentation, and supplies.
  • Ensure all equipment and instruments are available, clean, and functional.
  • Set up the operating room according to surgeon preference cards.
  • Assist with patient positioning, skin prep, and equipment setup as directed by the RN Circulator.
Intraoperative Responsibilities:
  • Maintain the sterile field and practice strict aseptic technique.
  • Anticipate surgeon and procedural needs.
  • Handle specimens according to policy.
  • Count instruments, sponges, and sharps with the circulating nurse.
  • Assist with equipment operation and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure safe handling of medications on the sterile field under RN guidance.
  • Assist with patient transfer as needed.
  • Break down the sterile field and dispose of sharps and waste properly.
  • Transport instruments to SPD.
  • Restock supplies and prepare the room for the next case.
  • Report any equipment issues or missing instruments.
Compliance, Safety & Documentation:
  • Follow AORN standards and facility policies.
  • Participate in annual competencies and required training.
  • Document implants, medications, and equipment usage as required.
Qualifications:
Education:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
Certifications:
Experience:
  • One year OR experience preferred; ASC or orthopedic experience preferred.
Skills:
  • Knowledge of sterile technique, instrumentation, and procedures.
  • Attention to detail and patient safety.
  • Strong communication and teamwork.
  • Ability to anticipate surgical needs.
  • Professionalism and reliability.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced ASC environment.
Physical, Environmental and Mental Requirements:
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and chemicals.
  • PPE required at all times.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting
