Job summary

Akron Children's Hospital in Ohio is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist to prepare the operating room and assist the surgical team during procedures. Responsibilities include scrubbing on surgeries, patient assessments, and maintaining supplies while ensuring patient safety.

This is a full-time position with a $10,000 sign-on bonus offered.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program is required.
• 0 to 2 years relevant experience is preferred.
• Certification as a Certified Surgical Technician and Basic Life Support are required.

Responsibilities

• Scrub on all major and minor surgical procedures as assigned.
• Participates in patient assessments while planning and evaluating care.
• Performs circulating duties under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
• Maintains operating room suite supplies and assists with staff orientation.
• Demonstrates knowledge necessary to address various patient needs.
• Participates in hospital activities as directed.

Job description

Full-time, 40 Hours/Week

Monday to Friday, days 7am-3:30pm plus Every other weekend 7am - 3:30p.m. + on call required

Summary

Certified surgical technologists are responsible for preparing the operating room, including but not limited to the sterile field, setting up surgical equipment, supplies, etc. During surgery, the certified surgical technologists contribute to patient care by assisting the surgeon with instrumentation, supplies, specimens, and control of the sterile surgical field. They are instrumental in preventing foreign retained objects. (Association of Surgical Technologists, 2022).

Responsibilities

• Responsible for scrubbing on all major and minor surgical procedures as assigned.
• Participates with patient assessments while planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care.
• Performs circulating duties under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse to provide care and safety to all patients.
• Responsible for maintaining operating room suite supplies, pulling procedures, assisting with continuing education, precepting, and orientation of all staff.
• Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psych/social, educational, and safety needs of the patients served regardless of age.
• Participates in various hospital activities as appropriate and as directed by the Manager.
• Other duties as required.

Technical Expertise

• Experience in pediatric surgery is preferred.
• Experience working with all levels within an organization is preferred.
• Experience in healthcare is preferred.
• Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word] or similar software is required.

Education and Experience

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required; graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program is required.
• Certification: Certified Surgical Technician (CST) and Basic Life Support (BLS) are required.
• Years of relevant experience: 0 to 2 years is preferred.
